Week 7 Thursday October 11

We started the day talking about emotions and using them in the context of our bible story this week, Baby Moses. The kids made faced and it made us laugh!

The kids like being able to put up the story with the flannel.  It engages them and teaches "taking turns".

Dance Time! CJ was totally making his move on the chicks!

We practiced writing our letter and number for the week on the white board.

The day finally came! I have been looking forward to this craft all week! Pete the Cat! Can you tell I am a fan?

Snack time! They LOVED the crackers and cheese.  They kept wanting more and more! We bought oval crackers since that was the shape for the week.

Had to get a couple final pics of the Pete the Cat craft.  Look closely and you can see the 4 groovy buttons.  One button in popping off!

Great Week! Love our kiddos!

Monday, October 8, 2012

This week's bible story was Baby Moses.  This is one of my favorite stories! The kids were REALLY attentive while I told the story using the flannel board.

For our craft, we took the suggestion from the curriculum and made the Baby Moses.  The moms all helped cut out and the kids colored and glued.

The book of the week was Pete the Cat and His 4 Groovy Buttons.  We thought this book would help us with the number 4.

Cute Jack was the first one to stand up and start dancing!

While we looked through the book, we listened to it at www.harpercollinschildrens.com/petethecat .

For snack we made Baby Moses in a basket.  I adapted it a little.  The kids enjoyed putting it together.

We fingered painted the letter D and the number 4.

We finished the day jumping on the trampoline in the back yard.  The kids love that and it wears them out so they take good naps!

Go, Go Joe!

Today we spent an extra long time talking about the story of Joseph and his coat. The kids really enjoyed putting the felt pieces up to help me tell the story. And they were GETTING IT. They were able to answer my questions well, and they seemed to understand how the story tied in with our memory verse (Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good - Romans 12:21). YAY!

Addison remembered to tell us that Joseph's brothers threw him in a "dark tunnel" (ok...close enough :)

Apparently all Doc needs to be content is a baby car seat. Excellent.

Today we also read "My C Book". It's a tricky concept that "c" has two different sounds. I think Noah was feeling it...
We also read The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The kiddos seemed to enjoy the story...I tried to do a good "troll" voice :) I think the trick to the longer books is to feed them snack while we read. Today we had sugar cookies with rainbow sprinkles in honor of Joseph's coat of many colors. They were egg-free so Eisley could have one too. Here's the recipe I used:

Egg-Free Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder
1 cup flour
sprinkles or colored sugar
milk for brushing on top

Method:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Cream butter, sugar, vanilla, and baking powder.
Mix in flour.
It will be crumbly...that's ok.
Form into small balls and gently flatten out. Place on a cookie sheet.
Use a pastry brush and paint some milk on the top of each cookie.
Sprinkle with colored sugar or sprinkles.
Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly browned.

Unfortunately we didn't get any action shots of the craft today. We made colorful coats like the one Joseph wore...ours were made of Trder Joe's bags. This is a two day project since we couldn't paint the back until the front dried.

Then the kiddos practiced matching the letters of their names. Eisley is a whiz!

Poor Addison has a LONG name!

To wrap up school time, we reviewed the letters and numbers we've learned to far by playing a modified version of "Four Corners". I hung bright signs all over the house with a letter or number on each one. As I called out a leetter or number the kids ran to stand by the right sign. This was a huge hit. I think I may leave the signs up for a bit...Addison has been asking to play again and again.

Have a great weekend!! See everyone Monday at Annabelle's house!

Go Dog, Go...and Some Other Stuff

Today we kicked off the week with calendar time and Bible time. We talked about the new month, and established that October is fun for two reasons...Halloween (Jack gave us an excellent play-by-play of what happens when you go trick-or-treating!) and Annabelle's birthday is in October!

Next we read the story of Joseph and his Brothers in our kid's Bible. And I put the pieces on the felt board as we retold the story...next time the kids will try putting the pieces up. I was worried the kids were gonna be totally lost with this story, but they followed right along and were able to answer all the questions I asked.

Then we danced to our Hide 'Em in Your Heart verse, Romans 12:21. And we marched to the song "I'm in the Lord's Army", which was a big hit!

Then we talked about the letter "c" and the number "3". The kids took turns tracing the tactile letters and number, and we recited the rhymes to help us remember how to make the shapes. I think the rhymes are really helping to reinforce the letters and numbers.

This led us into the story of Goldilicks and the Three Bears. The kids LOVED this one....don't laugh at my "daddy bear face"...

Then it was time for snack. We enjoyed "puppy chow" while we read Go Dog, Go!

Doc found his snack especially delicious (big surprise there!)

Puppy Chow

Ingredients:
1 box rice chex
1 stick butter (1/2 cup)
1 cup peanut butter
1 bag (12 oz) chocolate chips
1 bag powdered sugar

Method:
Melt butter, peanut butter, and chocolate chips.
Stir in chex until coated evenly.
Pour some powdered sugar into a gallon-size ziplock.
Add some coated chex. Seal and shake until coated with sugar.
Repeat until all chex are covered in sugar.

After snack, it was time for our puppet craft.

To wrap up our day, the kids rolled cars around a giant road just like the dogs in Go Dog, Go. This was definitely a hit for the boys!

Crash!!
